The formula is pretty simple - higher ranking brings more visitors to your site which, statistically, causes to more sales or advertisement revenue.
The first and most important thing you should do is to make your site competitive. You need to create a situation in which your site is found and listed at the top of relevant searches in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. This can be helped along by placing the phrase you want to rank (for example: the name of your website), in the title of your homepage (in the head title tags <title></title>) and in different zones on your website. Remember, Google can't read graphics, so the phrase must be a text, not a picture. We'll get to how you can get Google to "read" your images later on.
Another thing to remember for getting more visitors is content, good content leads to more traffic! Now, to do this, here are some steps to improving your website's content:
- Order and Coverage – keep your pages organized, select a different title and description for each page, up to 64 characters. Tagging is essential since you can't fit all of your keyword phrases on your homepage and you need as much coverage you can get.
- Refreshing and Expansion – update your site regularly – try adding one or two pages a week but not less than one page a month. Be careful and don’t upload too much data in one go, it's better to update regularly in small batches than to refresh your site once a year.
You should remember that your purpose is to build a quality site with useful information that will interest your visitors, and not to understand how the search engines work. So as long as you stick to this rule you will promote your site and bring it to the top of the searches list. |
