SEO is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization – a process of optimizing the search results. Here are some basic facts and advice that can be useful:
- You don’t need to submit your site to the search engines to get listed. As long as you are linked to other sites, these search engines will find you by themselves.
- As said above, you don't need to submit your website to the search engines, but if you have already done that, don’t try to resubmit your pages after a period of time – it won't "refresh" your rankings.
- Since search engines don't base their ranking logic on webmaster's opinion about his/her website, META keywords won't affect your rankings, though META descriptions will be displayed.
- META tag - provides information about a given web page like web page content, keywords etc'.
- As mentioned in a previous article, getting high rankings is only the first step to becoming a successful website, but it's not enough. When you get to the top of the search engines' result page you need to maintain this position – you need to add quality to your website. Remember that you have to interest your potential users twice:
- When the visitor receives the search results he reads the titles and the snippets – so make them attractive, advert-like.
- When the visitor enters your website from the search results page, you need to motivate him to perform an action: submit information, sign up for newsletter or purchase your products. For this purpose, you need to provide your potential customer with informative, quick loading and professional landing pages.
- Don't use tricks to bring your site to the top of the search results. Of course they will help you to be on top, but for only a short period of time since the search algorithm and ranking logic are constantly changing and being improved.
- Don't trade links with any site you see. Try to find suitable web pages with good content. Like in real life, you should choose your surroundings carefully.
- Don't use frames in your website since it isn't convenient for visitors and is very problematic. For example, users won't be able to bookmark a particular page/content from your site and you will have problems with certain screen readers, text or audio browsers.
Frame or Frameset – displaying two or more web pages or media elements within the same browser window. |
